Today is the 25th anniversary of Nelson Mandela becoming a free man. In 1962 Mandela was arrested and convicted of conspiracy to overthrow the state. He served 27 years until his release on February 11, 1990. Mandela became the most visible symbol against apartheid, a system of racial segregation in South Africa. After his release, Mandela went through four years of difficult negotiations to reform the voting system. In 1994 an overwhelming majority elected him President. Even 27 years in prison could not break Mandela’s spirit. He never gave up and ultimately achieved great strides for Black South Africans.

Though his life Mandela taught us to never let your spirit be broken and you will be able to achieve great things!
