When it comes to carbs they are not created equal. We live in a fast paced world and let’s face it; most of us are eating on the go. Next time you reach for that processed carb try having a beet instead. Although they are not high on the popularity list, beets can satisfy the sugar craving without the guilt. Studies have revealed they protect against heart disease and help fight cancer.

Mushrooms promote a healthy heart. According to the American Cancer Society, shiitake mushrooms may help fight cancer by boosting the immune system through the compound lentinan, which is believed to slow tumor growth.

Kelp is a power green that raises energy levels and brain functioning. Other power greens include kale, bok choy, spinach, parsley, green beans, and alfalfa.

Ginger aids in digestion and treating nausea and arthritis. There are many sources of ginger including fresh ginger root, teas, extracts capsules, oils, and ground spices.

Cutting too much fat from your diet can lead to depression and contribute to acne. Remember certain types of fats are better than others! Fatty fish, avocado, olive oil, Walnuts, almonds, and pecans are all examples of good fats to have in your diet.
